An initial comprehensive exam is done to collect the information necessary to address specific individual concerns, detect dental disease, and evaluate the looks and function of the teeth. Our initial comprehensive exam includes the following:
- Periodontal charting: A detailed measurement of where the gums actually attach to the tooth in order to assess the health of the gums and bone supporting the teeth.
- Check of the jaw joint (TMJ) and muscles of the face and neck.
- Examination of the areas surrounding and adjacent to the teeth, including screening for oral cancer.
- Checking for cavities.
- Assessment of the bite, function, spacing, and position of the teeth.
- Evaluation of cosmetic concerns regarding color, shape, and positioning of the teeth.
A personalized treatment plan is developed using information from the initial clinical exam, x-rays, and your concerns and desires. Results of the examination are discussed and information provided so that you can make an informed decision in how to improve and best maintain your teeth for a lifetime of dental health.
The old adage "a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" holds very true when considering your dental health. Our office is committed to providing the services and information you need to maintain healthy teeth and gums. If you are experiencing gum disease, we have developed specific programs in our office to help you control the problem and prevent tooth loss. We offer dental sealants to prevent cavities from developing on the chewing surfaces of the teeth, especially effective on the new permanent back (molar) teeth of children 6 to 12 years of age.
Custom fit athletic guards are available and made in our office. They offer outstanding materials and fit for superior comfort and protection.
Restorative and Cosmetic Services
Along with the traditional filling materials such as silver and gold, we also offer the best in cosmetic, tooth colored filling materials of porcelain or composite. Recent advances in materials and techniques allow selected use of all porcelain crowns for front and back teeth. These crowns have no metal beneath them and do not cause an unsightly gray color at the gumline as can a traditional porcelain to metal crown.
We also offer porcelain veneers, a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the face of the tooth. With veneers, the color, shape and spacing of the teeth can be altered and improved if required.
To lighten the color of natural teeth that have stained over time, we offer professional bleaching. It is especially effective for teeth that have become stained from coffee, tea, wine or smoking over the years.
When teeth are missing, we offer the options of dental implants, non-removable bridges and removable appliances.
Other services available in our office are root canals to treat problems with the nerve of the tooth. We also perform routine types of dental extractions.
