As one of the first North American contracting companies to become involved in raise boring, Thyssen Mining has been providing raise boring services to the mining and civil construction industries since 1976.  To date we have completed over 25,000 meters of horizontal, vertical, and inclined raise boring from 0.6m diameter to 4.88m diameter.

Mine Development

Thyssen Mining has completed a significant number of mine development projects including: ramps, drifts, crusher stations and storage bins.  All types of excavations have been carried out in strata ranging from potash, to coal, to the hard rock of the Precambrian Shield.

Mine Operation

Contract mining continues to gain popularity as an efficient and economical method of operating a mine, particularly if the operation is seasonal or has a relatively short economic life.  Thyssen Mining has been carrying out contract mining for over 15 years and has acquired considerable experience in this important aspect of mine development.

Surface Construction

Civil construction activities have been carried out for mining clients.  These include:

  • Headframes and Hoists
  • Hoistrooms
  • Storage Bins
  • Shaft Collars
  • Hydro-Electric Dam Rehabilitation

Mechanical / Electrical Installations

Mechanical / Electrical Installations often form a major portion of a mine development contract.  Thyssen Mining's experience in such projects extends to the installation of hoists, conveyors and crushers, as well as underground sub-stations and surface plant construction.

Ground Stabilization and Water Control

Major ground stabilization and water control programs have been carried out over the years including both freezing and grouting.  The most sophisticated of these was undertaken in the sinking of the Saskatchewan potash shafts.  Other Thyssen Mining projects, in both hard and soft rock, involved properties containing uranium, base metal, coal and gold.

Shop Facility

Attached to Thyssen Mining headquarters in Regina, SK is a modern 18,000 square foot shop.  This facility has the tools and personnel necessary to carry out the full range of work required to service or completely refurbish Thyssen Mining's mining equipment.  All equipment is serviced before being shipped to another work site.
