What is BioSignature Modulation?

BioSignature is a system devised by world renowned strength coach Charles Poliquin. After years of working with and screening athletes Charles observed correlations between body fat stored in certain regions and levels of particular hormones.

The Power of Hormones

The 12 site skin fold assessment is a non invasive way to take a look inside the body at how things are working. Each skin fold measurement tells how much of particular hormone there is in relation to other hormones. This information is vital in order to optimally design training, nutrition and supplement protocols and bring about rapid weight loss. For instance if a person’s umbilical skin-fold is high relative to other areas then marathon running would be a poor choice of exercise to help them to lose fat. Despite burning lots of calories the prolonged stress of continual aerobic work could actually contribute towards  increasing the amount of abdominal fat. It could also indicate that certain foods are causing stressful reactions within the body so continuing to each certain foods will make it almost impossible to lose fat from that particular area.

The science of fat loss is far more complicated than we were originally led to believe. As many people can attest to cutting calories and exercising more doesn’t always result in losing weight. The body is not a machine but more a series of systems that interact with each other. One system has the ability to affect or be affected by other systems. The type of food we eat, the amount of sleep we get, our stress levels and the accumulation of toxins will all have an effect on if we lose weight or not.

There is much debate about the correct way to eat to lose weight. Anyone who has ever been on a diet knows that they are generally ineffective at creating long term weight loss.  Diets normally rely on severe calorie restriction, which in the end will always lead to failure. At first on a heavily restricted diet you will lose weight but very quickly this will come to a grinding halt. The body’s response to severe calorie restriction is to go into what is called starvation mode. Starvation mode is when the metabolism slows down dramatically; you get very tired and can burn very few calories as a defence mechanism to keep you alive. At this point you either use pure will power to eat even less or you return to eating more food. If you do eat less it is only a matter of time before cravings and hunger win out and you return to normal eating and you gain wait again.

The worst part of this whole thing is that your body keeps hold of fat in an attempt to keep you alive for longer. So most of the weight you actually lose will be in the form of muscle and water which is very detrimental to long term fat loss. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn, just like the bigger the car engine the more petrol it will use. There is no doubt that a 6 litre sports car will use more petrol than a 1 litre town car for the same journey and this is the same for you. At this point you have less muscle than before so even eating the way you did previously makes you gain extra fat and weight.

Unfortunately for a lot of people this isn’t the end of the story, through years of poor eating our bodies lose the ability to process food efficiently. Our hormones become out of sync meaning that simply eating healthy food may not be enough to lose fat. It becomes necessary to eat (and sometimes supplement) in a very specific way to reset the hormones and repair the damage that has been done through years of neglect.

How quickly will you see results?

This all depends on several factors such as the type and duration of the hormonal imbalance, your training, lifestyle habits, diet, and your own compliance. This could be as little as a few days up until a few months. Basically, if you are following the correct steps, you should see results sooner rather than later! It is up to you at the end of the day, if you want optimal gains or not. It is entirely possible to lose up to 2% body fat each week.
