Centracs is a groundbreaking ATMS software application developed by Econolite. Recognizing this is a bold claim requiring substantiation, Centracs is distinguished from the field of ATMS solutions in three key areas: smart client architecture, innovative software technology, and intuitive user interface. Each of these areas is discussed further below.
Smart Client Architecture
Centracs utilizes a client-server architecture. Client-server system architecture is not new, but the segmentation of the system components is what makes Centracs unique. By encapsulating the user interface at the workstation, the interface is responsive, even over lower bandwidth connections. The "core" server provides all of the central ATMS functionality, such as system administration, schedule functions, system alerts, user settings, traffic responsive and adaptive algorithms, etc. A data abstraction layer on top of the Microsoft SQL Server database serves as a broker for all data requests throughout the system. Communications servers handle the real-time device messaging and network interface. This logical segmentation of the components provides tremendous scalability for the system.
Innovative Software Technology
Centracs is built upon the latest software technologies, including the Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework, Windows® Presentation Foundation, and Windows® Communications Foundation. As a result, Centracs provides the City a built-in hedge against obsolescence. Because Centracs is a leading edge system, it is a top priority for product investment. In fact, since its introduction, there have been four major releases, each adding significant new features, including adaptive control, enhanced measures of effectiveness (MOE), and enhanced CCTV support. Perhaps the most innovative technology in Centracs, though, is its powerful user interface, developed through extensive user analysis.
Intuitive User Interface
The interface is unique to the transportation industry and capitalizes on the latest technology in software Graphic User Interface (GUI). While the interface can best be appreciated in a live demonstration, the screen shot to the right gives an idea of how the interface uses "containers" to present a wide variety of data elements to the user in an organized fashion. With full multi-monitor support, the system supports additional frames that can be assigned to each monitor. Each user can save one or more preferred configurations and restore preferences when logged in.
Beyond the rich information content and flexible displays, the Centracs interface allows both expert and new users to be efficient and effective through context sensitive menus, on-line help, and map and entity selection and action. Whichever is most intuitive for the user, the system accommodates. Finally, all system data is entered through the user interface. There are no .ini files to edit manually, no direct interaction with the database, and no system restarts for most configuration items.
DCMS.2 - Traffic Data Management System
The Econolite DCMS.2 system is a comprehensive traffic data management solution that has been developed to work with a variety of vehicle detection systems. DCMS.2 utilizes the latest in Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology, allowing the user to access their traffic-monitoring network from any Internet location.
An RIA, by definition, is an application, which operates in a World Wide Web environment. An RIA uses the main processing resources of a web client (the user's computer and Internet connection), while accessing data from a remote application server. This approach to data management provides the user with an open system, which runs on a variety of personal computers with an Internet connection, and is not dependent on a computer's operating system to function effectively.
Using the DCMS.2 approach to access traffic information has many benefits. As an example, when DoT personnel are located at different sites such as, multiple Traffic Management Centers (TMCs), traffic signal maintenance facilities, or working in the field, DCMS.2 allows the ability to access the traffic data system and monitor its performance without the burden of managing software licenses and updating software installations. DCMS.2 users enjoy the benefits of minimal training, automatic system upgrades, and 24/7 access through familiar web browsers.
Enhanced User Experience
With DCMS.2, the user's experience is now focused online, and access to traffic data is now through an interface to a website, which becomes one of their main entry points to the traffic network. DCMS.2 eliminates the need to move data files from one application to another, as in the past. Previously, files were copied from a raw data file to an independent software application, which created a spreadsheet or file format, and the user then created a formatted report. On the web, the user experience is more interactive and instantly gratifying because all aspects of data monitoring and system configuration are readily available through the same interface framework - the web browser.
DCMS.2 provides the use of a suite of Web browser windows, called Widgets, which gives the user more detailed information. Logging on to a DCMS.2 web site will open a DCMS.2 browser desktop or "dashboard," which is used to organize a series of Widgets, used for viewing and managing traffic data. These Widgets are linked to dedicated computer servers and a Microsoft® SQL database, which aggregates traffic data collected from the roadway. The DCMS.2 system logs the data collected from a network of remote roadway vehicle detectors.
Widgets are used to check traffic volumes, ?monitor intersection use, view detector ?images and associated traffic data and set ?account preferences, retrieve traffic data ?reports, streaming video, charts, and data ?history.
The DCMS.2 interface provides a ?map-centric view of the locations of the ?vehicle sensors. These map-centric controls ?allow the user the ability to highlight map ?elements and instantly view traffic data. ?DCMS.2 uses very accurate NAVTEQ® map ?data and a highly responsive map rendering ?application to display, find, and select ?sensor locations.
The suite of DCMS.2 Widgets includes Administrator Widgets and User Widgets, which give Users and Administrators the capability to set up their own custom Widget configurations to view the data specific to their needs. By creating a series of organized Tabs, which can hold groups of Widget windows, specific traffic data can be monitored continuously. Imagine having the ability to create "groups" of detection devices. Monitoring a large number of vehicle detection devices can be organized in groups, which will help the user remotely manage their vehicle detection network. For example, the user can create a group of detectors, which collect data from only the westbound traffic along a majorarterial corridor. Data can be collected from a group of all four approaches on a single intersection or from a group of turn-lane detectors only.
Part of the DCMS.2 Widget suite provides a "Web Services" Widget, which allows the user the ability to send volume, occupancy, and speed (VOS) data to other servers via the Internet. DCMS.2 follows the Institute of Traffic Engineers (ITE) Traffic Management Data Dictionary (TMDD) standard for sharing Extensible Markup Language (XML) traffic data.
Data Recording, Reporting, and Management
The DCMS.2 will collect raw traffic data from identified field data collection devices. DCMS.2 will convert and process the detector data into file formats as specified by the DoT. DCMS.2 also has the added flexibility to allow the DoT to interact with traffic information from an HTTP server or from the Windows Internet Explorer browser, displaying files from a Windows server and SQL (Structured Query Language) relational database. DCMS.2 Web Services is designed to enable Traffic Data Management systems to automatically communicate with a variety of traffic data systems within a transportation agency, or with key agency public or private partners.
DCMS.2 gives the DoT access to an XML traffic data format, which is currently being adopted on a widespread basis throughout the transportation community, as a standard for sharing traffic information over integrated networks.
All traffic data will be collected remotely utilizing wireless, fiber or copper communications methods. All traffic data will be collected in 5-minute intervals and shall conform to the guidelines of the Federal Highways Administration's Traffic Monitoring Guide (TMG). The various types of data that shall be collected by Econolite include the following:
- Arithmetic Mean Speed
- Average Time Occupancy
- Average Volume
- Comparison Report
- Peak Hour Report
- TMG3 (FHWA Traffic Monitoring Guide Standard)
DCMS.2 user interface will be conducted via Rich Internet Application (RIA) supporting Microsoft® Internet Explorer®, Mozilla® Firefox®, andApple® Safari® web browsers. Access to the website will require User ID and a Password. The DoT's identified system administrator issues the User ID and Password. Once the user is logged in to the site they will have the ability to populate the DCMS.2 workspace with the widgets of their choice, from the Widget Gallery.
The Widget Gallery consists of two types of widgets: Administrator Widgets and General User Widgets. The Administrator Widgets will only display within the workspace for the DoT identified personnel with Administrator privileges.
Administrator Widgets are identified by the RED border surrounding the widget. There are eight Administrator Widgets:
- Site Switchboard
- Detector Manager
- Location Manager
- User Manager
- Web Service Manager
- Collector Manager
- Lot Manager
Each of the widgets listed above provide administrator access to modify DCMS.2. These Administrator Widgets also include assigning user access as well as adding or deleting data collection devices to the system configuration. System training includes a complete walk-through for the use of these Administrator Widgets.
General User Widgets
General User Widgets are identified by the BLUE border surrounding the widget. There are 11 General User Widgets:

- Map Widget
- Location View

- Comparison Graph
- Parking Lot Info
Each of the widgets listed above allow the user to create and view information relative to the widget selected. System training includes a complete walk-through for the use of these General User Widgets.
Display of both Administrator and General User Widgets occurs within Tabs. Multiple Tabs may be created within the DCMS.2 workspace. By selecting "Save My DCMS.2" all widget and tab configuration layouts will be saved to the system database. The next time a User or Administrator logs on to the system, their screen will be restored to the same configuration layout.
teamEproTM is a maintenance management system developed, optimized, and employed by Aegis ITS' maintenance division, Team Econolite, over the last five years. The benefits of teamEpro include gathering and sharing of information, perpetual asset management, real-time status, and a rich complement of reports.
Now, Aegis ITS is offering this professional, field-proven maintenance software to agencies to enhance and improve their own maintenance operations.
The key to teamEpro's effectiveness is having technicians online (either via a web-enabled mobile device or by connecting to the agency's network in the field), gathering information and adding it to the system, ensuring that the data accessed by the agency is never out of date.
The teamEpro graphical user interface (GUI) allows for quick and easy access to all field information while creating a visual indicator of field operation status. From the GUI, the user is able to:
- See a snapshot of field operations
- Check assets at each location
- View cabinet and intersection photos
- View documents such as intersection drawings and cabinet prints
- Run reports
Reporting services allow users to quickly obtain reports based on selected criteria. Reports can be targeted to specific information by selecting any combination of location, employee, date, and/or work type.
teamEpro reporting services reduce the time spent locating information from multiple areas and then having to consolidate the information.
As an asset management tool, teamEpro allows the user to maintain an accurate inventory of all field assets and track the assets from location to location (intersection, service truck, warehouse, repair facility). This promotes accountability for field operations and provides improved forecasting.
