At Sparkling Smiles Mobile Dental Hygienists , we are committed to helping you have the healthiest teeth and gums possible. We understand that everyone is different, that all of our patients have different issues, different needs. That’s why once we’ve completed our initial assessment, we will sit down with you one on one and explain what the status of your oral health is and recommend any services that you will need. By working together, we will achieve a plan that suits your needs.

Our services include:

Oral Assessments

Oral assessments include an oral cancer screening. Head, face, neck, gums are examined, checking for clinical signs of disease involvement, gum pocket depths and bone levels and bleeding. All findings are noted and recorded in your file. Finally, all teeth are examined, verifying if there are any deposits of tartar/calculus and plaque/bacteria. During this observation we also record any mobility, fillings, sealants, suspicious lesions (e.g. cavities/caries**) and any other notable irregularities.

**As Dental Hygienists, we cannot diagnose cavities/caries or other treatment; however, we can advise you of any concerns and when to visit your dentist for assessment and diagnosis and possible treatment. Dentist referrals are available.

Dental Cleanings

During this procedure we complete a process called scaling, which is where we remove the plaque/bacteria and tartar/calculus from the teeth. For those specific individuals who have advanced gum disease, we perform a deeper cleaning procedure which is known as root planing. The removal of plaque/bacteria and tartar/calculus is the best way to prevent and treat gum disease in people of all ages. It is also an excellent way to maintain optimal oral health.

Once we’ve removed all of the tartar/calculus and plaque/bacteria, we then work to remove any surface stains from the teeth. This is accomplished by polishing them with a rubber cup polisher and polishing paste. It’s most effective for surface stains such as: tobacco, food, wine and coffee/tea.

Fluoride Treatments

This is an optional procedure, but it is usually recommended for children and for those who have a higher risk or occurrence of developing cavities and tooth decay. Fluoride strengthens the enamel, fights oral bacteria and assists in the re-mineralization of teeth. It’s also an effective treatment for sensitive teeth and for those who have areas of recession and abrasion, where the enamel is weaker and the root surfaces of the teeth are exposed.

Oral Cancer Screening
Over the past few years the amount of people diagnosed with oral cancer has increased exponentially. An early diagnoses of pre-cancerous and cancerous conditions is essential to prevent disease and negative outcomes. During your examination, we examine all oral tissues including the tongue, throat, cheeks, head, neck and face. We palpate the lymph nodes in the neck and thyroid areas for any abnormalities and inconsistencies. All findings and information is documented and the appropriate referrals and/or follow-ups are performed for the areas of concern.
