Swift Current – 1 position, full-time, permanent


Reporting to the Director of the Contract Bargaining and Enforcement Department, the Union Representative provides advice, support and assistance in all aspects of contract interpretation and enforcement, and representation of the membership of the Union.  The incumbent will assist in increasing member education, participation and activism through regular interaction with members at their workplaces.  The successful applicant will engage members to become active in local union programs such as collective bargaining, grievance handling, political action, member education, organizing and communication.


- A minimum of two years of demonstrated previous experience in labour relations duties or as a labour activist in a unionized work environment;

-Knowledge of provincial labour legislation and ability to interpret collective agreements;

-Ability to function co-operatively and collaboratively with SEIU staff and membership, exercise good judgment and manage shifting priorities;

-Motivated self-starter able to work effectively with a minimum of supervision;

-Ability to educate leaders, stewards and members on managing workplace issues, political and community action, and effective communication;

-Excellent group and interpersonal communications and management skills;

-Excellent research, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills;

-Proficiency in computer use;

-Ability to work long and irregular hours, as required;

-Valid Drivers license and a reliable vehicle; travel will be required;


-       Terms and conditions of employment, including salary, are governed by the Collective Agreement between SEIU-West and COPE 397.

President’s message | SEIU West Canada

It was more than the unfairness, or the disrespect, but it was the arrogance and heavy-handed way that the Government of Saskatchewan had chosen to conduct business with citizens in this province. The focus of this campaign has been to provide our members with the information and the tools to educate themselves and make an informed decision about who to vote for in this election.


Member Updates | SEIU West Canada

Naturally, as the fall elections approach, there have been some specific questions regarding the roles and expectations of the Union leaders who will assign the unit executive and shop steward role. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list or meant to exclude anything. This is work that unit executive offices already do in one way or another. Unit elections will be held for SEIU-West representatives.


Extendicare | SEIU West Canada

On Thursday, October 13th, the Extendicare Bargaining Committee met with facility Administrators, DOC’s and Schedulers to discuss the implementation of the new scheduling system. Please review it carefully as there is a strong onus on the individual employee to know, understand and co-operate in this system. Attached is the document created as a result of the discussions in this meeting.

Your Bargaining Team met with the Employer’s representatives this past week to begin the process of negotiating a first collective agreement on your behalf. Marion Chateau, The Bentley at Saskatoon, and The Bentley at Yorkton. We met for almost three full days at TCU Place in Saskatoon.
