The MMHCR area is an excellent place to live, being centrally located between Regina to the west, Minot to the south, Yorkton to the north and Brandon to the east (two hours from each), and an hour away from the connecting cities of Estevan and Weyburn. The area has all a family could want or need!
Flight to and from the area is possible by small plane (10-12 passengers) in Carlyle, and by larger planes to Estevan or Weyburn. Commercial carriers service Regina.
Visitors will be pleased to note that there are more than 260 hotel rooms within a 60 km radius of Carlyle & Arcola, including the Chaparral Inn in Arcola (14 newly renovated modern rooms), the Skyline Motor Inn in Carlyle (53 rooms) and the Kenosee Inn (83 rooms and cabins). Two full-service real estate businesses are ready and willing to help you find your dream home, and there are resort villages in both Kenosee and White Bear.
There is a full K-12 school in Arcola, an elementary and a high school in Carlyle, and some post-secondary education classes are available through the South East Regional College or university distance courses. Pre-kindergarten instruction is available through playschools in both towns.
Both towns offer licensed and private childrens day care options, and seniors accommodation with varying levels of care. Carlyle has a weekly parent and tot program sponsored by Cornerstone Family and Youth.
Arcola has a United Church and an Alliance Church. Carlyle's churches include Catholic, Pentecostal, Full Gospel, Jehovahs Witness, and Christian Community Chapel denominations. Kisbey, 5 minutes east of Arcola, has a United and an Anglican church, and Lampman, 30 minutes to the south, has a Lutheran, a Catholic and a Full Gospel church. In Stoughton (20 minutes west) there are Apostolic and United parishes, and Forget (15 minutes west) has a large Catholic church.
Personal & Health Services
Services available include dentistry, massage therapy, optometry, hairdressing and esthetics, and fitness centres. The area is served by an excellent ambulance company, and there is a full range of specialists available in Regina, Yorkton and Brandon. Three pharmacies serve Arcola and Carlyle, with others located nearby. A health food store in Carlyle offers alternative health products, and a community health clinic provides immunization and other health services.
The towns of Carlyle and Arcola offer three grocery stores, with a further 13 located within 60 km. As well, basic groceries are available from the three extended-hours convenience stores in the towns (9 within a half-hour radius). And if you want to eat out, there are 38 restaurants within a half-hour of Carlyle and Arcola.
There are four full-service financial institutions (Plainsview Credit Union in Arcola, Spectra Credit Union, CIBC and Royal Bank in Carlyle), as well as many bank machines in both towns. In total, within a half hour radius, there are 17 full-service financial institutions.
Other and Sundry
Both Carlyle and Arcola have libraries with public Internet access, and both towns are equipped for residential and business high speed Internet service. There are full service postal outlets in each. There is a large RCMP detachment in Carlyle which provides policing services for the area. A daily newspaper is available, and Carlyle has a local weekly newspaper as well, which serves the area. Children will enjoy the play parks in both towns, as well as the sports facilities (skating rinks, curling rinks, swimming pool, and ball diamonds). Sports and culture opportunities include baseball, soccer, gymnastics, curling, skating, swimming, dance, theatre and various community groups (Air Cadets, Scouts, Guides, etc.)
