TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO PRESENT THEMSELVES IN THE BEST POSSIBLE MANNER, SHOWCASING THEIR STRENGHTS TO PROSPECTIVE COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIESSelect College Admissions' counseling & tutoring services is individually tailored to each student and the family’s needs and begins with an initial one-hour meeting with both student and parents present. Our program is flexible as some students will require more help than others in the college selection and application process. Ideally, we like to first meet with students at the beginning of their grade 9 year. Meetings at this stage will be rather infrequent. We like to ensure that our students are on the right track with extracurricular activities, community service involvements, and leadership goals. We review coursework, beginning with grade 12 and work our way down to the current grade. We plan ahead for summer jobs/internships as well as academic, athletic or service-oriented summer activities by reviewing program deadlines, recommendation requirements, and the student’s resumé. We have had successful first-hand experience with competitive summer programs such as The Triumf High-School Fellowship and International Summer School for Young Physicists among other summer options in Canada and the US. We meet with grade 11 and 12 students more often in order to get their timeline started for the following two years prior to university. It is essential that we work with grade 12 students during the summer prior to their grad year, in order to review their last round of testing and to begin the college application process: finalizing their college list with “safeties”, “target” schools, and “reaches”, ensuring that they finish drafts of their personal statements and begin the actual online applications. We, naturally, spend a substantial amount of time with our grade 12 students in the fall, helping them with all components of their applications.Services include advice on high school course selection, monitoring standardized testing schedules and discussing options, reviewing extracurricular involvements, summer activities, etc., all designed towards giving students that critical edge in the competitive admissions process. Your student will work directly with me and not a representative. I shall oversee every case individually and provide guidance on all aspects of the college application process, including whether to apply in early or regular rounds, what to do on college visits, as well as provide advice on essays, interviews, and teacher recommendations. My personal library is available to students during office hours.
