 DUVAL, GABRIEL

Comptroller’s Office. Addressed to Francis Page, Esquire. Collector, York Town, Virginia. GABRIEL DUVAL, jurist, was born in Prince George County, Md., Dec. 6, 1752; of French Huguenot ancestry. He was admitted to the bar and practiced in his native state. In 1794 he was elected a representative in the 4th congress, resigning just before the completion of his term to accept his appointment as judge of the Supreme Court of Maryland. He was a presidential elector in 1796 and 1800; was comptroller of the U. S. treasury, 1802-11, and Nov. 18, 1811, was appointed an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court. He resigned in 1836 and died in Prince George county, Md., March 6, 1844. Fine.

U.S. Regular Army at Naunheim German Army of Of occupation and presented to 1st Lieut. A.H. Sayce Company Commander on his Departure June 18. As other units defending Paris retreated, the 3rd Division, positioned on the banks of the Marne, bravely held its ground. The image depicts an eagle perched atop an American shield with the insignia of the 3rd Division at its center.

Autographs & Manuscripts

There is a cut cancellation that does not affect either signature and a thin ink line through Caroline's signature, but her autograph is still fully readable. Dower rights came from the English common law system and were followed in the American colonies, continuing in most states well into the 19th century.

By her orders of council which were issued in November last, Great Britain has in fact declared that every American vessel that sails on the ocean shall be subjected to capture and confiscation by her cruisers. The arrival of Mr. Rose, the minister extraordinary from Great Britain to this country, excited some hopes that our differences with that nation would at length be amicably adjusted.

Stocks and Bonds

On the brink of failure, the company founders closed their mine, moved the company to Duluth, Minnesota and began the manufacture of sandpaper with abrasive materials purchased from outside sources. Stock certificate for 300 shares of the Boston and Chelsea Railroad Company issued to and signed "Gardiner G Hubbard" on the verso. Receipt glued to the left edge and pen cancelled on the front not affecting the signature.
