Wood Turtles are a Species at Risk in Ontario

A wide variety of custom programs have been performed, including:

  • Animal control and SPCA training seminars — staff can learn to identify, handle, and care for, typical pet reptiles, and native Ontario species.
  • Corporate themed events, such as “Jungle Night”.
  • A seminar for municipal by-law personnel on creating reasonable and enforceable by-laws pertaining to reptiles and amphibians.
  • A seminar for highway construction personnel on snakes “at risk” in the highway corridor.
  • Seminars for Ministry of Natural Resources personnel on reptiles “at risk” in the province.
  • Workshops about Ontario’s reptiles and amphibians for park interpreters.
  • Workshops for veterinary technician students and veterinary medicine students.

If you have a particular topic related to reptiles and amphibians, we can build a program around it — just let us know!

Rental Program - Sciensational Sssnakes

The practice of capturing, temporarily holding, and then releasing animals can cause problems including poor nutrition and loss of body weight, alteration of behaviour towards people, and potential disease outbreaks. Although print media, video, and preserved specimens all play an important role, people are fascinated by viewing live specimens, and observing their feeding, thermoregulation, and other behaviour firsthand.

Rates - Sciensational Sssnakes

Our rates depend on the size of the group, the number of shows and display tables you want, and the duration of your event. Tables and/or staging and sound systems are to be supplied by the facility. Longer distances may require that accommodations be provided. They can be supplied for an additional fee. Audience of 100 or less.

Displays - Sciensational Sssnakes

Along with pictures we have interpretive signs explaining the meaning of ectothermy, the lack of slime on reptiles, that snakes are unable to blink, that snakes smell with their tongue, the shedding process in snakes, and hibernation. We have interpretive display boards, which may be set up in conjunction with display tanks, although we are able to provide display tanks alone.

Shows - Sciensational Sssnakes

In such a short time there is a limit to the amount of information we are able to impart, and we often don’t cover some topic or specific information that an audience member is interested in. Native Ontario species, the animals that may be encountered in our own province, are a major focus for us, and a few are featured prominently in virtually every show we do.
