Effective July 1, 2011, an RCBC membership will be required for all current companies and organizations listed with RCBC’s referral services on the Recycling Hotline and the Recyclepedia.
Established in 1990, the RCBC Recycling Hotline is a province-wide live information service for recycling, pollution prevention, waste avoidance, safe disposal options and regulations.
Our Hotline provides each caller with personalized information because our database cross-references materials, services and communities in every region of the province.
Launched in 2009, the RCBC Recyclepedia is an on-line searchable database of recycling drop-off locations across B.C. covering over 68 materials categories.
All current companies receiving referral services from the Recycling Hotline and Recyclepedia will have until October 31, 2011 to join as a member. After October 31, your company will be taken off the active database.
Yes. It would be advisable to take out a membership effective immediately if you would like to be listed on RCBC’s Referral Services. Your 2011 membership is complimentary. The fee you pay now ensure yourlisting until December 31, 2012.

Yes. All membership applications are subject to approval by the board of directors. All members are expected to adhere to RCBC’s Members’ Code of Conduct and Constitution and By-Laws.

Business memberships are based on employee size. A location can take out a branch membership or a company can select the appropriate category to cover all locations.
Yes. All members are required to assign one staff member as the official member contact. This person will receive all official correspondence pertaining to administering the company’s membership. A company and organization can submit other staff’s email contact for inclusion in RCBC’s electronic distribution list for newsletters and advisories.
Yes. RCBC’s requires all members to agree to its Members’ Code of Conduct upon application.
RCBC Members’ Code of Conduct (approved April 2011)
“The Recycling Council of British Columbia (RCBC) is a multi-sectoral, non-profit organization promoting the principles of zero waste through information services, the exchange of ideas and research.”
Membership in RCBC is available to all individuals, organizations or companies who share in the broad philosophies and goals expressed by the foregoing Mission Statement and the RCBC Constitution.
1. The fundamental relationship between each member and RCBC must be one of trust; essential to trust is a commitment to honesty and integrity. Ethical conduct within this relationship imposes certain obligations.
(a) RCBC members must act at all times in full compliance with both the letter and the spirit of all applicable laws.
(b) In his/her relationship with RCBC, no member shall commit or condone an unethical or illegal act or instruct another member, supplier or employee, to do so.
2. Members shall not exploit or invoke their membership in RCBC for personal gain or to promote their business.
3. Members are neither endorsed by RCBC nor by provincially affiliated sponsors or other members.
4. RCBC does not permit its name, logo or written materials to be copied, republished, excerpted, hypertext-linked to a website, or otherwise used for any commercial purpose, including advertising, or to suggest any endorsement, affiliation or sponsorship of any third-party product or service, without the prior written permission of RCBC.
5. Without prior written permission, members may only use the RCBC Logo in accordance with the RCBC Logo Use Policy, upon completion of the RCBC Member Logo Use Form.
RCBC’s membership fees are based on a calendar year and are renewable at the end of each year. Once your application is approved by the RCBC Board of Directors, your fees will be waived for the remained of 2011 and your membership will be good until December 31, 2012

The annual cost for a business up to 10 employees is only $110 . This is less than the annual rate for a simple listing in most business directories. Considering the amount of direct referrals and information about your services we provide to the more than 100,000 Hotline callers and Recyclepedia visitors every year, and I think you’ll agree you will not find a better value.
a. The RCBC logo may only be used to show that an organization or individual is a member of RCBC. Use of the logo should only be accompanied by the text ‘Member of RCBC'. Any other text accompanying the logo is not permitted.
b. RCBC does not permit its members to use the RCBC logo for endorsement of a member's organization, publications, products, services, or programs.
c. RCBC does not permit its members to alter the appearance of the RCBC logo.
d. Member must complete and return the Logo Use Agreement form before logo is released for use.
