Its not just about quality of care,
its about quality of life.
At Mount Sinai Hospital Montreal, we believe that Respiratory Care means more than treating respiratory disease. It also means helping patients cope with their symptoms, on a physiological level as well as on psychological and emotional ones. For many patients, that means overcoming their fears, adopting lifestyle changes and learning to live with their disease while enjoying peace of mind.
Mount Sinai Hospital steps up to the challenge of respiratory health with a unique multi-faceted approach to patient care that includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment and education. A variety of pulmonary diseases are treated, ranging from emphysema, to chronic pulmonary obstructive disease, chronic bronchitis, and asthma. Short admissions for treatment of acute exacerbation or infections can also be offered.
The in-patient unit consists of 35 beds for short-term care. The average patient stay in the unit is three weeks. An interdisciplinary approach to treatment is taken with a team of physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists and other professionals.
Patients are admitted to the respiratory in-patient unit for short term pulmonary rehabilitation upon referral from a physician. Prospective patients are then placed on a waiting list providing they meet the proper admission criteria.
Inhalation Therapy services are part of the respiratory rehabilitation program. Patients are assessed and treated based on their individual needs. Services available in Inhalation Therapy include:
