The Etymonix MPEG-2 (I-frame) video codec is a software video compressor/decompressor based on the standard Video for Windows (VfW) architecture. It can be used with a wide range of existing applications that support VfW codecs.

This codec is specifically engineered to preserve quality during image processing while providing better compression than lossless solutions. Typical compression ratios between 2:1 and 5:1 can be achieved. Along with the common YUV 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 modes used in the video industry, it provides a unique YUV 4:4:4 mode for better-than-broadcast quality. Test results show that live video can be decompressed and recompressed an infinite number of times with no visual degradation, even to the expert eye. This makes the codec ideal for video editing where the video may be processed many times.

  • Software-only solution does not require a hardware codec
  • Fully compliant with the standard Microsoft Video for Windows interface
  • Image quality is preserved even after many compression/decompression cycles
  • Simultaneously compresses and decompresses multiple streams
  • Operates in three modes: YUV 4:2:0, YUV 4:2:2 and YUV 4:4:4
  • A wide range of resolutions (up to 768x576) and frame rates (23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30 frames/sec)
  • Supports NTSC (720x480) and PAL (720x576) resolutions
  • Supported by many applications (such as Adobe Premiere, Fractal Design Painter, Ulead Video Studio, Ulead MediaStudio Pro, Windows Media Player, Macromedia Flash MX)
  • Ideal for professional video-editing and archiving
  • Optimized for MMX

Etymonix | Products | Media Raider

Media Raider is a Windows application that converts multiple formats (Video CD, CD-I, CDRWin BIN and WinImage ISO files) to MPEG system/audio/video. Media Raider supports extraction of the MPEG data from BIN files containing Video CD or CD-I movie data. CD-I movies contain both audio and video data but not all CD-I discs contain MPEG data.

SoftReel Version History

Display stream format" setting enables the display of basic stream information for a few seconds during video playback. The stream information includes the MPEG and chroma formats, the video resolution, the aspect ratio and the frame rate. FIX: In trial version, logo and trial overlays would sometimes appear distorted. Some non-intra streams displayed a black video output. The DVD input format must be enabled for DVD playback.
