Year after year I write about beauty, love, and happy moments. I research, observe, and immerse myself in all of it. And then October, a.k.a breast cancer awareness month, rolls around. This month inspires me in a different way; nudges me even closer to the core of my being, reminding me of the many forms of beauty, love, and special moments.  As breast cancer awareness month comes to a close, I reflect on how lucky I am to have met and worked with so many strong women who, with clarity and vision, step forward everyday and make a difference. Organizations such as the CanCare Foundation, which began as a group of friends with a lot of determination, distinguish themselves through their continuous fundraising. Numerous such organizations turn loss into hope, and hope into greatness every single day. Couples, such as the one profiled last year in Love Conquers All, see the magnificence of life and love, despite cancer. They savour the importance of happy moments. On a personal note, the grace of breast cancer survivors has touched my life in a profound way. It is the lens through which I develop my own vision, sensibility and wisdom. I’ve seen fear, hope, courage, faith, love and the way these individuals deal with the unknown. I believe everyone has been touched by breast cancer, through a friend, a mother, a sister, a co-worker. My hope is that, by continuing to do our part, we will all live to see a world free of cancer. Whether you make a donation, participate in the ‘Walk for the Cure’, donate your wedding dress to raise money, or attach a pink ribbon on your wedding favours, you make a difference. That is beauty.

Elegant blooms speak whole different language at the Elegant Wedding Showcase. On November 7th you will have the chance meet the experts behind the city’s most stylish weddings. Translating a poetic language of love through their bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and floral arrangements, these pros will discuss the best options for your wedding day celebration. Flowers and love have been interconnected for ages—come by and discover what the world of flowers has to offer.

Thankfully, glitters are back this year and they are on wedding gowns, shows, purses, and accessories. This is the year of the fairytale wedding. Dress styles are interesting and extravagant. The simple necklines have been replaced with a myriad of possibilities: beaded strapless, scoop necks, one-shouldered classics and shimmering bustiers
At this year’s Elegant Wedding Bridal Show you will see some of Montreal’s finest bridal boutiques.

Let yourself be transported to magical places and experience mystical spaces…without ever leaving the city.
Join us on Sunday November 7, 2010 at Le Windsor Ballrooms for a spectacular bridal event.

Begin your wedding day memories by choosing a magical setting. Destination weddings are one of the fastest growing trends as couples venture to new places and enchanting locations. For those who have dreamt of dancing on the sand after saying your “I do” consider exotic locations like Jamaica, Fiji, or Hawaii and or look at locations closer to home. Just 45 minutes west of downtown Montreal in a charming country setting you will find Au Vieux Moulin. This dream location is ideal for any romantic wedding ceremony and reception. The Mill and surrounding 10 acres of natural beauty can be used exclusively for you and your guests for the ultimate romantic wedding.

Vincent & Mélina pronounced the words “ I Do” on June 19 2010 in an intimate reception at the historical and unique Conseil des Arts de Montréal. This was actually the first time a wedding was being celebrated under their roof, and truthfully there was no better place for this artistic and inspiring couple.  Every detail had been carefully thought of and their guests were treated to elegance and refinement with fine catering and 2 private film projections. The first one being Destino, an animated short film based on the most iconic and surreal pieces of Salvador Dali blended with Disney magic.  The plot consists of a gracious ballet between a man and woman, in spite of their differences they finally meet on their destiny path of love. Later in the evening, the guests enjoyed classic scenes from Claude Lelouch 1966 Ocsar winning movie, “A Man and a Woman”.

Their wedding photography was also greatly inspired by the early years of cinematography, rich wooden tones and dim warm lighting, which suited perfectly the classic and elegant dress worn by the bride. Also, a walk in the park at Cité du Havre with a breathtaking view of Montreal’s skyline, the bridge & groom successfully combined urban chic with a touch of vintage.  Timeless memories for this truly unique couple.

Re-inventing the glass slipper
By Anna Lombardos

From Cinderella’s glass slipper to Louboutin’s red sole, shoes have come to be synonymous to dreamy delights treasured by women all over the world; they’re not only a requisite part of a dress code but also a treat that is enjoyable to shop for. Shoes are an important accessory; therefore, selecting that ideal pair for your wedding day is one of the most exquisitely pleasurable things to do before the special day.

With posture, poise, and pizzazz, the right pair of shoes will add spring to your step. Whether your wedding gown is a princess-style frock designed with multiple layers of tulle, a long graceful sheath, or a fun mini dress a la mode your choice of footwear will have an effect on the way the dress looks on you.

Imagine that walk down the aisle, feel the soles of your feet as you take a stroll at the park for your pictures, as you dance the night away with your guests. The beauty and relevance of the entire ensemble is enveloped in the preference of your shoes and the overall fit of the ensemble. If you are a traditional bride, the white satin pump may be just the thing for you. Offering a great deal of flexibility, this option has been around for ages; you can dye it, change it up, glue specks of rhinestones and beads, or add a vintage flower. Satin or fabric shoes come in several designs: the open-toed sandal, the peep-toe, or sling backs.  They are classic, timeless, and an inexpensive solution to swanky treat.
