The Residence has no specific religious affiliation. At the request of patients we can offer the pastoral services of Reverend Ian Smith who will provide spiritual counseling. Upon request, we can also obtain services from the patient’s preferred religious denomination or faith community.Complimentary Therapies
We can arrange for massage therapy, music therapy, therapeutic touch and other services which may be provided to complement the traditional care offered by our medical staff.Medical Care
In addition to the Doctors & Nurses caring for the patients at the Residence 24/7, we may also draw upon the medical specialists on staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital. The Residence is associated with a pharmacist who specializes in medications used in the treatment and reduction of symptoms related to terminal illness. We also offer psychosocial support to both the patient and family should they so wish. Bereavement Counseling
We are extremely proud to be able to offer our bereavement support groups to all that have had a loved one with us at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. Specialized bereavement groups are offered several times a year and are divided by age and language. These sessions are all offered free of charge.
