Dr. Tom Smith,  E.M.C. Eco Marine Corporation (EMC)   began using detection dogs in his early studies of the sea ice breeding habitat of the Arctic Ringed Seal. His pioneering research in the 1960's, with the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, has lead to studies using detection dogs, Drakeheath Kennels,  in many polar areas including Alaska, Norway and the Canadian Arctic.

We conduct wildlife surveys, capture, tag and track wildlife for impact assesment, collect specimens for biological parameters  for physiological studies and for the measurement of contaminants. We administer contracts for studies in the Canadian Arctic and train native technicians for wildlife studies.

We can provide research, project planning/logistic support, and community contacts, as well as equipment  and accomodations for Natural History Film Productions in most areas of the Canadian Arctic and the Antarctic Penninsula.

We can train and certify your arctic field staff in firearms safety and proficiency  as a defense against polar bears. We teach survival skills for high-arctic terrestrial, marine and sea-ice environments.  We have NRA certified firearms instructors,  experienced Inuit guides and certified  polar bear monitors available for your projects.
