All of the mantels are built with quality products. The frames are typically built with finish veneer plywood for structure and faced with different types of hardwoods. All of the mouldings and detail work are made with solid wood. I also build 100% solid wood mantels if the customer requests it. All of the rustic beam mantels are built with solid wood only. All of my mantels are built using glue and screws to eliminate as many face nails as possible so I can achieve a stronger and more aesthetically pleasing product. For the finishing, I typically use more environmentally friendly products like water based aniline dyes for the staining, the type that most cabinet makers and furniture companies use. The aniline dyes give more depth and clarity to the pieces. I use water based sealers with low VOCs so there is less off gassing of the product as well as they are also better for the environment. I also try to minimize waste as much as possible by building a piece that will remain in the house for a lifetime.
