Product Description:

Long chain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids are essential for optimal nutrition and overall wellness. Since our body is unable to produce omega-3  fats on its own, they must be obtained through our diet. Krill Oil is a rich source of omega-3, as well as a naturally occurring antioxidant, astaxanthin. Similar to fish oil, Krill Oil contains a high amount of Omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexanoic Acid). EPA and DHA have been found to also improve cognitive performance in healthy subjects and to lower the risk of dementia.

Krill Oil is a unique Omega-3 fatty acid source, compared to fish oils or flaxseed.   Most of the EPA and DHA in Krill Oil exist in the phospholipid form instead of the triglyceride form as those in fish oil. This unique physical characteristic makes krill oil more readily absorbed and therefore more available to your body. Though linolenic acid from flaxseed oil belongs to the omega-3 family, only a very limited portion (less than 5%) can be converted into EPA/ DHA in humans. Therefore, the Omega-3 in krill oil is more efficiently utilized by the human body.Importantly, Krill Oil is a sustainable source of Omega-3. Krill is a highly renewable resource, with the annual catch being restrictively controlled by international treaty. On the other hand, up to 3 grams of fish oil per day only led to a slight change in the blood lipid profile, suggesting the krill oil is more efficient than fish oil in blood lipid management.As a source of protection against osteoarthritis pain, Krill has also been found quite effective.  Just 300 mg Krill oil per day for seven days reduced C-reactive protein (CRP, an indicator of inflammation in arthritis) by 19.3% compared to a 15.7% increase with a placebo. CRP was further dropped about 30% after 14 and 30 days in the group being given krill oil; arthritis pain was reduced by 28.9% and stiffness was reduced by 20.3%. These findings demonstrate the benefits of krill oil for alleviating chronic inflammatory arthritic symptoms.In addition, Krill oil contains astaxanthin, a natural antioxidant.  Astaxanthin helps prevent the retina from oxidative damage and could potentially be beneficial in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).
