Failing to lower the salt and other contaminants from the crude oil can cause corrosion and fouling to the downstream equipment and also lower the economical value of the crude due to the high cost of production. After the oil has been washed and mixed, resulting in an emulsion of oil and water, demulsifying chemicals are added and electrostatic fields are used to break up the emulsion.



It is sometimes equipped with different meters to determine oil, water and gas rates, necessary to diagnose well problems, evaluate production performance of individual wells, and manage reserves properly. Separators work on the principle that the three components have different densities, which allows them to stratify when moving slowly, with gas on top, water on the bottom, and oil in the middle.



The sweetening process entails mixing the sour gas with an amine solution, which absorbs the acidic gases later in the process as the mixture is heated and cooled until the purified and acidic gases are separated. Gas sweetening units, (also known as amine treating units), are a processing unit that removes contaminants from gas, making it environmentally suitable for transportation and commercial use.


Heat Exchangers

Tubes expanded into stationary tube sheet allow for tube expansions and contractions, due to thermal fluctuations, without causing stresses on the joints. The U-tube & Hairpin heat exchangers are designed for a wide range of liquid to liquid and steam to liquid applications. Glycol dehydration units are most predominantly used for removing large amounts of water, and adsorption is used for cryogenic systems to reach low moisture contents. Natural gas in transit to market should be dehydrated to a controlled water content to avoid hydrate formation as well as minimize corrosion problems.



The purpose of gas conditioning units is to pre-treat natural gas and other combustible gasses prior to injecting them into a more critical process or a gas turbine generator.
