Our company started in 2002 as Dykstra Owen Public Affairs, providing public affairs services to a variety of clients. Since then, our clients have challenged us with plenty of exciting projects. We’ve worked with them to accomplish internal goals such as the development of strategic plans and action plans, and worked with them externally as they engage with various stakeholders.
In 2006, we became Pathfinder Strategic Counsel, a new name which reflects the range of services we provide to our clients.
Public Affairs and Project Management
A well-structured public affairs program can be a cost-benefit to your operations, in similar fashion to the other day-to-day functions of your organization.
We work with you and become part of your team - participating in your strategic discussions, defining objectives and helping to execute. Our goal is to be a key element of your senior management team, and we structure our relationship with you so this can be accomplished. Whether it is a specific project or ongoing public affairs counsel, we'll function like a full-time member of your team.
We bring a hands-on project management style to your public affairs program, tailoring an approach that meets your specific needs from conception to implementation to completion. We cover all elements of public affairs including:
- Communications and media relations
- Government relations: policy development, regulatory issues
- Research, analysis and monitoring
- Issue and crisis management
- Stakeholder & community relations
- Writing of materials
- Strategic partners for market research & polling, advertising, and event execution
We work with you to identify your top issues, and quantify their bottom-line effect on your organization - both positive and negative. We will define clear, measurable goals, and measure success against these benchmarks.
Group Facilitation, Strategic Planning and Implementation
A lot has been written about the need for organizations to have strategic plans. We agree. We also think that the execution is just as important.
We act as the facilitator to help you get the plan developed. We try to keep it simple, and we’ll help you:
- Set the agenda for the planning process
- Identify and prioritize your goals
- Manage the discussions with participants
- Record the results
- Develop the final action plan
Once the plan is developed, we can then work with you to execute, taking on particular tasks towards meeting the plan. Finally, we work with clients to review progress against the plan and adjust actions accordingly.
Professional Development & Training
Dealing with the public, media, or government officials can be a challenge. The reality is that effective public affairs programs sometimes require a different approach than when dealing with other organizations. Understanding how this works can give your organization a competitive advantage.
Our knowledge of the strategies and tactics that make public affairs successful coupled with an understanding of government decision making and processes enables us to develop specific learning programs to empower your team. We help you understand the environment in which you are working, and give you hands-on experience so your team has the skills and knowledge to achieve results.
Whether it’s a one-time seminar or on an ongoing basis, we will work with you to design a specific program that meets your organization’s needs.
