We at Niermann Weeks try to respect our mother earth every day, but in the spring we all stop work for a day to clean up our five acre campus.  Through the year debris from the nearby highway and from our own trash has accumulated, so we fill lots of bags with trash and make a run with leaf litter to the county’s recycle center.

To encourage new growth in our plants, we prune away dead branches and cut down the tall grasses.  In this photo, Rebecca, Sandy, and Tony get set to cut down the grasses.

Alfredo comes next to rake up their cuttings.

Then Dave and Danny bag and bag and bag.

David rakes up under our other trees and bushes.

After many long hours, our facility looks much cleaner and neater.

Now that we’ve cleaned up our corner of the earth, we urge you to make your corner more earth-friendly. So far, we have no blisters or splinters to report, and we hope you can say the same.

All our best wishes from Niermann Weeks to you and yours for Earth Day and throughout the year!

It’s that time of year again, when the DC Design House Committee open the doors to their spectacular new Design House, this year in Chevy Chase.  Here are a few words from the committee:

Welcome to the 2010 DC Design House – Washington, DC’s premier design house showcasing the talents of the area’s finest designers – to benefit Children’s National Medical Center.

We are delighted to host this notable event in the lovely Georgian-style country home with a history as a center for social activity in the Metro area. The home was the site of the inauguration party for Harry S. Truman and was a former residence for the Ambassadors of Mauritius and Uruguay.

The home located at 3911 Bradley Lane, Chevy Chase, Maryland is the site of the 2010 DC Design House to benefit Children’s National Medical Center. This grand country house was built in 1905 for Mr. and Mrs. Worthington Ford as a small stucco home on land purchased from the Chevy Chase Land Company. In June of 1910, Mr. and Mrs. John Ryan Devereux purchased the home from the Fords to live in, along with their ten children.

This is sure not to miss, Niermann Weeks even has several of our pieces featured.  Please leave us comments after you visit to let us know what you thought!

This year’s Designer list includes:

Page Palmer

Frank Randolph

Rose DiNapoli

Lynni Megginson

Cynthia Ferranto
