Server and Data Centre - Mission-critical bandwidth
If the Server Infrastructure is the heart of your IT operation, the Server LAN is the main artery that connects it to your employees, vendors and customers. Neither one should be left to chance. In a proper design, application servers reside on a dedicated LAN segment and are multi-homed with no single point of failure. Traffic to and from the server LAN is routed, not switched and screened by access lists to help prevent unauthorized use of server resources. Publicly accessible servers like E-mail, Web Hosting and Remote Access, are located in the DMZ, with firewall rules to protect them and the internal network from threats. But just as important as the initial network configuration, is the operational process to maintain its integrity through changes and upgrades.
