The Orient has long considered Korean ginseng to be the most effective herbal tonic on earth and modern science is proving the efficacy of this remarkable, ancient herb. Korean Ginseng has been prized for its reputed anti-fatigue effects to improve performance, stamina, concentration and reaction time, especially in the elderly. Korean Ginseng is not a drug. It is a vitamin-mineral rich food that benefits men, women, the ill and the healthy. Modern science, research and studies have demonstrated that ginseng has the properties of adaptogens, anti- diabetes, anti-oxidants, anti-carcinogens and anti-aging agents.
Traditionally, ginseng is called “Insam” in Korea.
Why does Korean Ginseng called Panax Ginseng?
There are several types of ginseng of different species and its efficacy. Korean ginseng is unique with different shape and pharmacological effects compared to other North American, Chinese, Japanese and Siberian ginseng. Korean Ginseng has the most outstanding therapeutic effects with the most diverse saponins( ginsenosides), and other valuable nutrition .That is why Korean Ginseng is only called Panax ginseng. The botanical term Panax means “all heal” or “cure all” because of its wide use in Korea and in Chinese medicine
Does Korean Ginseng grow in Korea only?
Because Ginseng has a very selective biological preference for its habitat, it is often extremely difficult to grow them. Even in Korea, Korean Ginseng grows in certain area only. Korea is a peninsula surrounded by ocean with a mild climate, fertile soil, adequate moisture and other special conditions. Korea Ginseng is one of unique species in the world.
What is Korean Red Ginseng ?
There are two varieties: white and red. The Korean Red Ginseng is produced when white Ginseng roots are processed using a slow, low–temperature heat method which is adopted from effective traditional Korean processing technique. This produces a mild tasting drink that has undergone chemical changes that promote a number of active beneficial ingredients (consisting more than 30 types of saponin(ginsenosides), polyphenol and maltols).
What makes Korean Red Ginseng special?
Korean Ginseng is unique in its kinds and is considered the most potent and stimulating of all ginsengs because it contains the most complete saponin( ginsenosides) which has therapeutic effects. The major component in the Korean Ginseng is a carbohydrate which consists of over 30 kinds of saponin( ginsenoside), polyacetylene compounds, polyphenol, acidic polysaccharides and other valuable nutritions like minerals such as phosphorus, iron, copper, magnesium, calcium, potassium, sulphur, manganese, silica and sodium. It is found to be rich in Vitamins B1 and B2. Present also are the enzymes amylase and phenolase . Ginseng aids in restoring homeostasis( a balanced, healthy state) in our health by providing ginsenosides.
Korea ginseng, known as the master medicine, is a herbal medicine that people often take under normal conditions to prevent themselves from possible diseases and to maintain and to promote their health.
It is free of any toxicity or harm, even when it is taken in large amounts or over a prolonged period of time
1. Ginseng saponin
In contrast to other types of ginseng, which as about 4 to 15 kinds, Korea Ginseng is known to have more than 30 kinds of saponin with each with unique medical effects.
2. Polyacetylene compounds
More than 10 different kinds of compounds known to suppress replication of cancerous cells and exhibit
antiplatelet and antioxidation activity.
3. Polyhenol compounds
Many polyphenol compounds to suppress lipid hyperoxidation and to help slowing the aging process.
4. Acidic polysaccharides
Korea ginseng is identified to restrain the activity of toxohormone-L, a lipolysis prompting toxin, and to reinforce immunological functions that is significantly more than that of other types ginseng.
5. General ingredients
True for amino acids, specifically threonine, glutamic acid, proline, glycine, alanine, cycstine and lysine.
Moreover, the amount of adenosine, a nucleic acid, found in Korean Ginseng(INSAM) is higher than that of other types.
What is Saponin(Ginsenoside)?
Saponin(Ginsenosides) is a critical factor in ginseng’s effectiveness.
Saponin(Ginsenosides) is a class of steroid-like compounds, triterpene saponins, which is viewed as the active compounds behind the claims of ginseng's efficacy.
Comparison of Saponin(Ginsenoside)
Korean ginseng has the richest variety of saponin. Its composition is so exquisite that no other plants in the Panax family come close to it. These ginsenosides are further divided into diols, triols and oleananes according to their structural characteristics, and are known to have different medical effects.
[Saponines like “G-Rh2, G-Rs1,G-Rs2,H-R4”exist more in red ginseng than in white ginseng peculiarly]
