This is specially engineered to completely degrade between 60 to 90 days in an in-vessel commercial compost environment, and then to biodegrade in the soil, releasing its carbon as a nutrient to plants.

Temperatures in industrial composting plants are typically in excess of 70 degrees centigrade in order to ensure compliance with the Animal By-Products Directive.

Field-trials are ongoing, and Symphony will introduce this product after successful completion of the trials and testing according to the AFNOR standard NF U44-051.

Product description

W technology can be used to shorten the life of a wide range of plastic products made from Polyethylene or Polypropylene, including single, multi layered and laminated degradable materials, and including virgin, recycled or blends of these polymers. Refuse sacks, which consumers buy in rolls at the shop, and use for disposal of their ordinary household waste.

Product Features

Many high-value cosmetics and other products are sold in plastic bottles, jars, and other plastic containers, and often these empty containers are collected and refilled with an inferior product and sold as the genuine article. A number of factors can accelerate degradation, such as sunlight, heat and stress and, whilst the process of degradation cannot be stopped if oxygen is present, it can be considerably delayed by chilling or freezing.

Agricultural Film

Degradable mulching films for agricultural applications are required to degrade within a very tight timeframe, but factors such as heat, light and stress, which affect the rate of biodegradation, will vary from region to region and even from farm to farm. W plastic is already available for heavy-duty sacks and for other plastic products for use in agriculture and horticulture.
