Critical illness insurance is a type of life insurance, which is paid to the insured person as a one-time lump sum payment after a diagnosis of a critical illness. A critical illness policy can cover illnesses such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, AIDS, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) or heart attack. This type of insurance is meant to provide financial assistance during a critical time when a person is unable to work during to a serious illness and provide funding for medical treatment, medical devices and attendant care or nursing care. After a diagnosis has been made, an insured person is subject to a “survival period” before the claim can be paid. The length of the survival period will depend on the type of illness. If your claim for critical illness benefits has been denied, you can fight the insurance company’s decision. It is important to seek immediate legal advice. The lawyers at Aaron Waxman & Associates can help you recover the benefits you purchased.
