If you require a Criminal Records Check, you are required to attend the St. Thomas Police Service, in person, to complete the necessary forms.

Record checks will only be conducted during regular business hours - Monday through Friday - 8 a.m. to 4 p. m. The business office remains open during lunch hours.

You are required to provide photo identification with proof of address. Some examples of photo ID include:

  • Driver's Licence
  • Passport
  • Photo Health Card

Volunteers are required to produce a letter from the agency introducing them as volunteers. Completed checks will be forwarded via mail to the agency requesting the background check. Your eligibility for this service is determined by the location of your residence. If you live outside St. Thomas City limits, you must attend your local Police Service for a Volunteer Record Check.

Completed record checks for employment may be picked up at the station during normal business hours: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We make every effort to accommodate people requiring record checks - however the normal time from request to completion is a minimum of 3-5 business days.

If you have lived outside St. Thomas during the last 5 years , we must contact other agencies to complete the check. We do not have any control over the length of time it takes other agencies to provide us with the information. Therefore, it may take much longer to complete a record check.
