Using specialized hand-pieces with the Palomar Starlux 500 system, light is filtered from different parts of the spectrum. Different treatments such as hair reduction and sun spot removal require light of different wavelength bands.

The Palomar hair removal hand-pieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted into heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

What body areas can get treated?

Any area except around the eyes.

What do the treatments feel like?

The pulsing hand-piece will be moved over the treated area, each pulse sending a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone and a mild sensation or slight tingling feeling on the skin will tell you when the hand-piece is being pulsed.

What are the side effects of Pulsed Light Hair Removal?

Most people experience no side effects at all, though a few exhibit some short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin. You can return to your regular activities immediately after laser hair removal treatment, although it is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for a short period of time.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

The laser hair removal technology destroys hairs that are in the active growth phase, so repeat treatments will be needed to target hair that was not affected at the time of previous laser hair removal treatments. Normally, six to eight laser hair removal treatments are recommended to get the optimal results.

In the weeks following the laser hair removal, hair may appear to be growing in the treated areas. Because the hair follicles are lifeless, this, in fact, is simply the body attempting to cast them off to get rid of them. They will easily fall out.

What areas can be treated with Photo Rejuvenation?

Treatments utilizing Photo Rejuvenation technology can be used on any part of the skin. Photo Rejuvenation treatments are especially effective in improving the appearance of the face, neck and chest.

What results can I expect with Photo Rejuvenation?

You can expect to see a decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries after your Photo Rejuvenation treatment. People with visible aging from the sun can expect to see their skin become smoother, with a decrease in fine lines, reduction in pore size and fading of freckles and sun spots. Many people see an improvement in breakouts and are able to decrease or discontinue their medications.

What is a Photo Rejuvenation treatment like?

Each Photo Rejuvenation treatment takes approximately 20-35 minutes. A mild amount of discomfort can be expected. Immediately following a Photo Rejuvenation treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed, and tiny capillaries may appear more visible. Brown spots generally appear darker. All of these changes gradually fade over a period of time.

These treatments can be alternated with Microdermabrasion treatments for safer, more rapid skin renewal.

How soon will I see results from my Photo Rejuvenation treatment?

After your first Photo Rejuvenation treatment, your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone. These improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment. Six skin rejuvenation treatments are performed for optimal results. Some clients will benefit from additional treatments.

Who are the best candidates for Photo Rejuvenation treatments?

  • people who suffer from and experience rosacea or flushing and redness of the skin
  • people with early aging changes and sun damage who desire healthier, more youthful-appearing skin
  • people who don't want to take time off to heal from laser resurfacing or chemical peels
  • active people who don't want the treatments to interfere with social or outdoor activities

DermaSweepTM MD 6000 - multi-level skin resurfacing system

What is DermaSweepTM?

DermaSweepTM consists of multi-Level treatments. In one single system, the DermaSweepTM MD 6000 delivers technology advancements in each of its three levels of skin resurfacing.

  1. Particle-free Dermabrasion for exfoliation of the epidermis. Utilizing DermaSweepTM's revolutionary treatment tips, we can tailor treatment with combinations of bristle options for optimum results. DermaSweepTM MD's tip combinations allow for over one hundred exfoliation possibilities. Selecting the appropriate tip, along with the adjustable vacuum pressure, allows for safe, painless and controlled exfoliation. DermaSweepTM's procedures are much preferable to particle abrasion with aluminum oxide crystals which lack precision, escape into the air onto the patient and cause patient discomfort.
  2. Epi-Infusion for simultaneous microdermabrasion with our trademarked topical solution delivery. Epi-Infusion delivery combines therapy using our precision bristle combinations with simultaneous topical delivery of the technician's choice of appropriate solution. It is safe and painless. DermaSweepTM's topical solutions are formulated to treat specific dermatological conditions and include Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Panthenol, Vitamin C, Sodium Hyaluronate, Salicylic Acid 3, Witch Hazel, Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Lactic Acid, Bearberry, or Licorice Root dependent on specific targeted needs of the individual. The strengths, combinations of solutions and level of vacuum pressure are completely regulated to offer exactly the strength and depth needed.
  3. Hydro-Assisted Dermabrasion for the deepest penetrating dermabrasion. Hydro-assisted dermabrasion delivers the greatest level of vacuum pressure and is combined with the most abrasive tips for the deepest treatment available. This is a safe treatment for both the patient and the operator.

How much downtime should I expect?

There is no downtime associated with the DermaSweepTM. Although we encourage women not to wear makeup for the remainder of the day, if necessary, it may be applied immediately following the treatment. Most women, however, enjoy the clean, fresh feeling of their complexions and usually wait until the next day. Unlike other exfoliating treatments, there is very little peeling afterwards because the skin cell build-up is removed during the actual DermaSweepTM process.

Will I need more than one DermaSweepTM treatment?

The condition of your skin will determine how many treatments may be recommended for you. In some cases, four to six treatments performed every two weeks may be suggested for optimal results. In many instances, even those with more youthful complexions opt for subsequent DermaSweepTM treatments because they like the way their skin feels for days afterwards.

Fractional 1540 Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing

For the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, surgical scars, acne scars, pigmentation disorders and sun damage.

How does the Fractional laser treatment work?

The Fractional Laser delivers light in an array of narrow, focused "microbeams", to create columns of coagulation (heat) within the skin. These deep columns of coagulated tissue initiate a natural healing process that accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue to fill in the damaged treatment areas. Coagulated collagen and cellular debris is expelled as skin is resurfaced thus resulting in fresher, more youthful skin tone and texture.

What areas can I have treated?

Fractional treatments can be applied to most areas of the body. The most popular Fractional treatment areas include the face, chest, arms and hands. Fractional resurfacing is great for facial lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, surgical scars, acne scars, pigmentation disorders and sun damage.

What is the difference between ablative and non-ablative skin Resurfacing methods?

Ablative skin resurfacing is performed with a co2 or erbium laser, and completely removes and resurfaces the epidermis and portions of the dermis. Results of this procedure are noticeable, and ultimately positive. This is an invasive procedure and the drawbacks to using the ablative skin resurfacing method include raw skin, and an increase in the risk of infection, and weeks or months of down time.

Non-ablative skin resurfacing is a non-invasive resurfacing procedure that sends light pulses into the dermis, while leaving the epidermis intact. The recovery of this procedure is fast as a result of the light pulses only penetrating partially into the dermis, resulting in a positive change in skin tone and texture without the long recovery period and risk of infection. Most patients are back to work or their daily routine within an hour of their treatment.

What makes Starlux 1540 Fractional treatments different from other Skin Resurfacing methods ?

StarLux Fractional Skin Resurfacing penetrates deep into the dermis to achieve effective, long-term results. This non-ablative approach simulates healing in the dermis, while leaving the epidermis intact, thus avoiding any lasting redness.

StarLux fractional Skin Resurfacing offers both superior results and no downtime. The Lux 1540 penetrates deeper into the dermis than competing devices for effective, long-term results that stimulates quick healing in the dermis. StarLux Fractional treatments also differ from other technologies as they do not involve a long prep and cleanup time. Competing devices require that dye be applied to your skin, which is difficult to rinse off after treatment. StarLux doesn't require dye or prolonged appointments, thus making the treatments quick and convenient to your schedule.

How does the laser work to resurface skin? Are these treatments safe?

The Palomar Lux 1540 Fractional Laser Handpiece delivers light in an array of high precision microbeams. These microbeams create narrow, deep columns of tissue coagulation that penetrate well below the epidermis and into the dermis, while sparing the tissue surrounding the columns from damage. The coagulated tissue within the columns initiates a natural healing process that accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue. Coagulated cellular debris is expelled as the skin is resurfaced.

By delivering light as individual pulses of microbeams, the Lux 1540 protects the skin from the overheating that can result from many other resurfacing treatments. In addition, the Lux 1540 features built-in cooling of the skin, so you feel only minor discomfort during treatment.

Throughout the process, the integrity of the stratum corneum is maintained, which protects the tissue from infection as it heals. The result: faster derma remodelling and skin resurfacing.

What should I expect after a treatment?

You may experience redness, warmth, swelling, or tightness in the treated area, which typically fades within a few hours of treatment. The skin may often have a pinkish tone for 5-7 days. Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to work or do other activities without any recovery time.

Because the light pulses are confined to narrow columns in the skin, much of the skin is left unaffected and there is a quick healing process. Most people notice positive changes in skin tone and texture within a few days. A series of 3-5 treatments at 4-6 week intervals may be required to achieve the desired results.

Leg Vein Treatments

Many people live with visible (and embarrassing!) leg veins. These leg veins can be safely and effectively treated with advanced laser technology. The Palomar Lux 1064 Laser Handpiece offers a comfortable and effective leg vein treatment. This non-invasive process causes unsightly vessels to fade from view in a few treatments or less.

How does Palomar laser leg vein treatment work?

Lasers deliver concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target, such as pigment, blood, or water, The Palomar Lux1064 handpiece delivers light pulses in the 1064 nm wavelength, which is ideal for targeting leg veins.

The light pulses heat in the blood within the leg vein. The heat of the blood affects the vessel lining, which causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view.

What are Palomar laser leg vein treatments like?

Your treatment provider will move the Lux 1064 handpiece over your skin, following the length of the vein, pulsing it all the while. Each purse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.

Are these treatments safe? Are they painful?

Your provider will go over the risks and benefits of treatment with you. Palomar leg vein treatments are skin-safe and comfortable. The Lux 1064 delivers its energy in one smooth, gentle pulse, to protect the skin from a sharp rise in temperature.

In addition, a chilled fluid supply runs through the Lux 1064 handpiece, down to its tip. Since the handpiece tip is in contact with the skin during treatment, your skin is continually cooled, so that you feel little heat from the laser pulses.

What should I expect after treatment?

Imediately after treatment you will see any of these three possible outcomes:

  1. The vessel will disappear
  2. The vessel will darken
  3. The vessel will shrink

The surrounding skin may turn pink and be slightly swollen for up to 24 hours. Often more than one treatment is necessary to achieve full clearance of leg veins.

Price is based on size of area to be treated and number of veins. Please inquire. (FREE consultation)
