As the trail design and layout evolves, sometimes challenging areas crop up. To address such items as turns in steep side slopes, water crossings, moist and wet areas a creative solution is required. Our Sustainable Trails staff relies on their years of construction background to assist them to choose the perfect remedy.

Solutions such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and boardwalks are incorporated to ensure the sustainability of the trail and the safety of the users.

Other times it’s a matter of leading the user to a positive control point ( like a user enhancing vista ) that dictates a trail structure. In either case, our staff employs the correct fit and finish to blend in with the environment.

Challenged with remote locations, we are armed with the right equipment to deal with such things as expediting materials along the trail and the lack of electricity.

Rock Work | www.sustainabletrails.com

In more urban settings, discarded concrete debris and recycled concrete granular provide a good base material for trail construction, lowering the project costs while keeping these materials out of landfill. Aesthetically rock can be a better fit for steps, benches, technical trail features and it certainly is much more permanent than wood.
