It is a National and Provincial Fire Code requirement that certain types of occupancies have in place an approved Fire Safety Plan.
Types of occupancies may include assembly halls, churches, schools, office buildings, manufacturing facilities and more. It is the requirement of the building owner to ensure that an approved fire plan is in place and continually updated to reflect any changes.
Requirements of a Fire Safety Plan are outlined in Section 2.8 of the Ontario Fire Code. We can help you develop a plan that meets these requirements and assist in getting them approved by the local fire authorities.
A typical plan includes a review of both building and people resources. Building resources outline the types of fire protection and life safety equipment in place and their locations. This would typically include fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, generators, special hazards, extinguishers, etc.
The plan will also outline the responsibilities of key personnel, fire drills, maintenance requirements of the building fire protection and building schematics.
More and more the importance of having and evacuation plan in place is increasing. In the event of fire, natural disaster, bomb scare or any other type of emergency the importance having an evacuation plan in place helps to ensure all employees or occupants of your building know what to do in a real emergency. An Evacuation Plan identifies the responsibilities of both the designated emergency team and building occupants.
Qualpro will help you develop and maintain an Evacuation Plan for such emergencies. We will help you train those identified as part of the emergency team as well as set up reviews as necessary to ensure the plan remains current. The Fire Safety Plan and Evacuation Plan go hand in hand to ensure you and your employees or occupants are better prepared in the event of an emergency and to maximize business continuity following an emergency.
Fire Drills. The Ontario Fire Code requires that fire drills are carried out on a regular basis and a record of these drills be kept. We can make all the necessary arrangements and set up a schedule for these to be completed.
- Fire Extinguisher hands on Training. We can provide both in class training and actual hands on fire extinguisher training. The vast majority of fires are extinguished by portable fire extinguishers. Quick and safe action is the key to their effectiveness.
- Emergency Team Personnel. The Ontario Fire Code requires that any employees or occupants identified as part of the fire safety or evacuation emergency team be trained in their duties.
- Occupant responsibilities. We can liaison with building tenants to ensure they are aware of their duties in the event of an emergency.
