SFPs and XFPs

By: Optelian  09-12-2011

LightGAIN MSA-compliant SFPs and XFPs are used in Optelian muxponders and transponder/regenerators. OEM units are available for installation in non-Optelian transmission equipment.

A wide variety of SFPs and XFPs are available to support all kinds of applications including reach extension, wavelength conversion for CWDM and DWDM systems and for multi-mode to single-mode conversion. SFPs also convert between electrical and optical interfaces.

ROADM & Optical Channel Monitoring

OCM-series optical channel monitors continuously monitor the optical power level across wavelengths in a DWDM system, eliminating the need for an Optical Spectrum Analyzer on site. Optelian’s RDM-series ROADM modules allow network operators, working remotely, to quickly reconfigure circuits in DWDM networks. Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers and Optical Channel Monitors are key building blocks for agile optical networks.

Amplification and Dispersion Compensation

Optical FiberAmplifiers provide the reach needed for long-haul DWDM, ROADM, and higher-loss metro OADM applications. Chromatic dispersion is predictable and stable and can be compensated for using dispersion compensation modules. Amplified DWDM systems experience accumulated delay induced by chromatic dispersion on long fiber spans. Optelian’s OFAs are gain-flattened, low-noise, C-Band Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers.

Multiplexers, Splitters and Circulators

As shown in the diagram to the right, for xWDM applications, signals from SONET/SDH, Ethernet, or other transmission equipment are converted to the required wavelengths through muxponders, transponders or SFP/XFPs used in the transmission equipment before being combined by the multiplexer.

LightGAIN Systems

An Optical Service Channel is available to pass management reports and commands through a geographically distributed network. Optical network functions and system intelligence are packaged in standard plug and play modules. Aggregate multiple low-speed signals to one high speed signal to add capacity to optical systems. Network designs are quickly and easily configured for any application.

Muxponders

In addition to aggregating eight GbE inputs into one 10 GbE output, the multi-purpose MPX-81-EXO may also be used as an Ethernet switch with provider bridge VLAN capability. Muxponders use pluggable transceivers (SFPs on the client side and XFPs on the line side) so they can be used in a wide variety of applications. Increase bandwidth by aggregating multiple lower bit rate transmission client signals into one higher bit rate line signal.

Regenerators/Transponders

Any system can be extended for an unlimited distance by adding regenerators mid-span, as the 3R function of the regenerator effectively cleans up the signal from chromatic and polarization mode dispersion. Regenerators can be used with amplifiers; amplifiers giving hundreds of kilometers of reach and regenerators placed when necessary to clean up the signal.
