As with any consulting company, our strength is based upon our consultants.
Peter C. Smith
Our principal consultant, Peter C. Smith, is a Senior Oracle Database Administrator with Unix Administration experience and strong communication skills.
Peter was first introduced to relational databases since 1987 and has been working exclusively with Oracle engine since 1992.
Peter possesses two Bachelor of Sciences degrees from Queen's University; one in Electrical Engineering (Computing Option) and the other an Honours in Computing Sciences.
Peter's engineering education assisted him during his time with TMI Communications, Magardi and Intasys Solutions.
These telecommunications companies provided an environment where Peter was able to utilize his Oracle skills, but to also increase his knowledge of Unix, Networking, Telephony and Satellite communications.
Peter's work with The Pythian Group proved to be the hardest and most productive learning experience.
The Pythian Group provides remote DBA support to a variety of customers (.com, manufacturing, medical, education, financial).
It is that variety of customer base which provided environments where every aspect of Oracle was being utilized; hence, has to be learned and supported by the DBA teams.
Oracle features like Replication, Standby databases, Queuing, 24x7 availability, Parallel Server were all being implemented and supported; in turn providing a learning environment unlike any other in Ottawa.
Peter calls "Pythian the best - hardest place in Ottawa to work"; however, the knowledge gained during his tenure there is being continually drawn upon when servicing existing customers.
