Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. Our dentists are able to administer nitrous oxide to particularly anxious patients or for certain surgical procedures. The gas allows the patient to relax and enjoy the appointment without any fear or apprehension.
IV (Intravenous) Sedation
Understandably, some patients feel anxious or afraid when it comes to visiting their dentist. By undergoing IV sedation, our dentists can put nervous patients at ease. It is also designed to help patients with low pain thresholds.
The IV sedation process consists of administering a sedative drug directly into the blood stream by inserting a needle into a vein. After only a few moments, the patient drifts off into a state of deep relaxation, so much so that they will not remember most or all of the procedure after waking up.
Contrary to popular belief, IV sedation does not put the patient to sleep despite feeling like they have dozed off. They maintain a certain level of consciousness, but is unaware of his/her surroundings and the procedure.
