Interoperability Breakthrough - Prince Albert Fire and Police Services co-deploy Ground-Breaking New Public Safety Solution
Prince Albert is the first city in North America to deploy a smart technology solution that puts critical incident information (e.g. floorplans and aerial views) in the palms of both police and fire officers en route to an incident.
Following the successful evaluation of the technology by Prince Albert Police Service, Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC) have extended the Canadian Safety and Security
Program (CSSP) project to include the Prince Albert Fire Department.
With the addition of Prince Albert Fire, Prince Albert is now the first city in North America to deploy a multi-agency Building Tactical Information System (BTIS). Over the next 2 years, PA Fire and PA Police will collect qualitative and quantitative information to advance Canadian research on the subject of real-time dispatch of building and incident information to iPhones and iPads carried by first responders.
By providing ready access to digital, mission-critical information, BTIS enables PA Fire to operationalize their preplans and leverage the content during a response. Features of the BTIS include the following:
information sharing between the Fire Chief, deputies, battalion chiefs, captains and crew
real-time updates of both text and live pictures
Situational awareness is achieved faster, leading to an earlier suppression of the fire, less property damage and lower risks
to both firefighters and building occupants.
“The Incident Commander has much to consider upon arriving at the scene of an incident. Easy access to critical
building information is essential in the formulation of the initial strategy to mitigate the incident. If this information is elusive or difficult to access, it likely won’t be used. BTIS allows our teams to arrive on scene better informed and able to make critical decisions sooner.”
– Chief JasonEveritt, Prince Albert Fire Department
The cloud-based and Public Safety Grade BTIS requires less than half a day to deploy, and includes the ability to efficiently upload pre-incident plans into a common, secure database. Fully interoperable between agencies and adjacent jurisdictions, the solution enables first responders to receive just the right information at just the right time. BTIS is the first of a suite of APX products that will improve officer and public safety by leveraging smart devices and broadband networks
