One of Ontario’s best-known young Autism advocates will be speaking at the Ontario Science Centre October 28.  “I talk about stuff that really matters—things your doctor doesn’t tell you and teachers don’t know,” says Keswick’s Daniel Share-Strom, a 21-year-old university student with Asperger’s Syndrome, an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Asperger’s is characterized by difficulties with social interaction and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests and activities. While individuals with AS often have average to above average IQs, the diagnosis is often accompanied by learning challenges. As a three-year-old, Daniel was verbal but very difficult to understand.  He was socially awkward and withdrawn, rarely socializing with other children. Today, thanks to his determination and his decision to embrace assistive technology and other supports, he captivates audiences with humour and poignant insight into growing up with ASD.
