Crowns completely cover teeth and provide strength and function to teeth that are compromised due to weaknesses such as fractures, large fillings and cavities or have been treated with a root canal. Crowns can also be used to correct the esthetics of teeth as an alternative to orthodontics.
Bridges are used when teeth are missing and can replace and restore both the esthetics and function of the patients teeth. The existing teeth present on either side of the missing teeth are crowned and then joined with crowns to replace the missing teeth. The bridge acts as one unit and can often provide additional strength to the existing teeth not only restoring the bite.
Implants are a wonderful alternative to both crowns and bridges. Titanium screws are placed into the bone and allowed to heal over several weeks and eventually a crown or bridge or even a denture can be secured onto these screws to give you a very natural feeling of your teeth back. Implants have been around for over 25 years and thus have been very successful.
