“The House of McFarland”
by David Hemmings.213 + xii pages, paperback, ISBN 978-0-9865772-2-2
This book describes the life and family of John McFarland (1752-1815), a master shipwright. This Scottish carpenter emigrated from the Clyde in 1776 and lived through two American wars, building ships and repairing boats for the British. He lived 14 years at Fort Niagara and was a prisoner of war twice. He built a beautiful brick House in 1800, and acquired over 2,800 acres as a legacy for his family. The transcriptions of petitions and wills from the McFarlands give insights into family opportunities and financial status. The direct descendants of John McFarland to the fifth generation are listed.
