Projective Solutions develops systems to address both planning and scheduling problems.
Scope: Generally include a wide process view, considered at a somewhat limited level of detail. Planning horizon: Long-term (few weeks to several months). Applications: Allocating orders to multiple facilities; planning raw material requirements based on current order forecast.
Scope: More limited, but drill much deeper into process details. Planning horizon: Shorter term (few days to several weeks). Applications: Detailed, minute-by-minute schedules by machine or production centers, including all relevant details on changeover times, downtimes, machine settings, and resource requirements.
These definitions can be somewhat arbitrary, and it is not at all surprising to find elements of one problem embedded in the other. However, they often provide a convenient starting point for exploring the requirements for a particular system implementation.
