Fugro Airborne Surveys offers the HELITEM system, the world’s most powerful commercially available helicopter-borne time-domain EM system (HTEM), having a transmitter dipole moment of 2.0 million A m2.

The high power of HELITEM, coupled with the low noise at the receiver due to its placement above and not in the centre of the transmitting loop, ensures the greatest depth of exploration possible for any AEM system.  Fugro’s HELITEM is the only commercially available system providing measurements in X, Y, and Z receiver coils for both dB/dt and B-Field.  Systems only offering Z-axis suffer from ambiguity of interpretation results for conductors.  The X and Y axes data provided by HELITEM will allow for more complete and definitive interpretation of conductors, and allow for the discrimination of conductors by orientation.  The high quality B-Field measurements de-emphasize the conductive overburden response while enhancing the response of strong bedrock conductors.

HELITEM combines the greater horizontal resolution and flexibility of helicopter-borne time-domain EM systems with the proven GEOTEM / MEGATEM technology.  Key attributes include:

Either unit can be configured with up to 67.2 litres (4096 cubic inches) of main NaI crystal detector, and up to 16.8 litres of upward looking detector volume.

The magnetometers can be installed in fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters, in either "stinger" or "towed bird" configurations, and, in addition to measuring total magnetic field, can be used to make vertical, transverse and/or longitudinal gradient measurements by using two or more sensors.
