Hold a mirror to your face and smile. What do you notice? When considering cosmetic dentistry, it is important to look at three things: bite, gums, and teeth. Cosmetic dentistry can improve and maintain your bite. Think about your gums. Are they healthy, well-coloured, and do they adequately frame your teeth? Also, look at your teeth. Do you have fillings? Are your teeth discoloured from coffee or smoking? Are your teeth poorly shaped with chips and cracks?
Porcelain veneers have become widely accepted as the benchmark of conservative cosmetic dentistry. They have been used successfully to mask teeth which are discoloured and poorly shaped. Bonding ultra-thin shells of porcelain to teeth created many of those Hollywood smiles that we envy.
Today, with the advancement in adhesive technology, we can achieve truly tenacious bond strengths of porcelain to tooth structure. As a result of this technology we are capable of doing more with bonded porcelain than ever before. One such application is the correction of mild to moderate crowding of the anterior teeth or what we call “Instant Orthodontics.” We call this instant orthodontics because in as little as two weeks a patient can go from teeth that are crowded to a perfect smile. Patients that decide to do instant orthodontics usually have already explored the possibility of conventional orthodontics and did not want to spend two to three years in braces to align their teeth only to find that to correct the shape and color they would have to do porcelain veneers.
We're proud to be a cosmetic dentist in Markham. We also use numerous methods to conservatively restore your teeth and help you obtain optimal oral health, including tooth colour fillings, crowns, fixed bridges, dental implants and full mouth restoration.
CEREC refers to porcelain restorations (caps & fillings) that are designed on a computer and fabricated in one dental visit. Without the CEREC technology this procedure will involve various impressions and temporary filling materials and takes two to three visits to the dental office.
