Engineered hardwood is constructed of a 7 layer cross-placed birch plywood. This method is designed to prevent contraction and expansion of materials in different climates, fighting against environmental moisture, which holds its shape and provides durability over time. Also, engineered hardwood is completed with a 3mm solid veneer hardwood layer, available in many different species. Engineered hardwood can be nailed down directly on a plywood subfloor, or glued on directly and floated on the subfloor when installed.
