In a goal-oriented culture, we are taught to adopt a series of conditions in order to earn self-worth; “When I get this promotion, lose ten pounds, buy that new coat, or find my true love… that will prove that I am good enough and then I can be happy.” Constantly striving to be “better,” many people struggle with the painful belief that they are not – and maybe can never be – good enough.

Through identifying individual conditions for acceptability, acknowledging the source of these beliefs and exploring the underlying hopes and fears that they represent, Rebecca Machado encourages clients to adopt a new, unconditional love and acceptance of self. (Somewhat ironically, it is from a platform of true self-acceptance that meaningful change may be made with grace and ease.)
