The Many Faces Of Christie

By: Mad Hatter Technology  09-12-2011

The exceptional quality and capability of Christie Digital products is difficult to communicate until you show what you can create with their products. Their digital display products come to life when they are combined with powerful content. For the 2011 conferences (Canada 3.0 and SIGGRAPH), Christie Digital wanted a display that dynamically communicated what has been created using their digital display technology.

Fresh Advice

Christie Digital MicroTiles are particularly disruptive technology because their design breaks out of the rectangular confines of most display technology.  The paradigm shift needs to be experienced to really appreciate the potential of the technology.

Mad Idea

We started by creating a bookshelf integrated with MicroTiles to break out of the concept of rectangular displays.  We extracted segments from Christie Digital marketing videos and arranged them into the non-rectangular space and layered them so that they viewer experienced multiple perspectives of events at the same time.  We also decided to have some fun mixing reality and illusion. By taking an image of what it looks like behind the screen within a MicroTile, we simulated moving the "screen" aside to reveal the contents of the MicroTile.

Sweet Success

The installation was a great success at the trade shows because it was able to entertain and delight the audience more than a static marketing trade show booth.  The display used the unique MicroTile technology to demonstrate the versatility of all the other Christie Digital display products.  The Canada 3.0 and SIGGRAPH conferences showcase the latest in digital display capabilities and The Many Faces of Christie installation managed to capture the attention of the crowds and inspire them to dream of what they could do with the technology.

In the end, we built a light version a Facebook for gift giving, in a ridiculously shortly time frame, across three mobile operating systems. There was a lot of buzz about HTML 5, but not many mobile shops had actually executed large applications on multiple platforms yet.
