The un-tethered worker now needs to be reachable and in touch whether moving down the hall, in a meeting room, or travelling across the globe. The days of the fixed desktop phone alone and simple cell phones are almost gone.
As demands increase for connectivity and converged communications, they also increase for business efficiency. Companies look for integrated solutions that will meet their communications needs while minimizing costs.
Mobile devices that rely exclusively on cellular networks for connectivity cause hard to control costs. A person in their office (where they could be using a VoIP phone) receives cell calls and incurs charges from the cellular provider. These costs wouldn’t be incurred if the call came in to the corporate PBX. Cellular coverage can also be spotty inside corporate buildings and warehouses. Missed calls can mean missed business opportunities as today’s customers often lack the patience to try different numbers until they connect to their desired party.
Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) supports the objective of full mobility and accessibility anywhere, while presenting the opportunity to manage cellular costs and leverage the corporate IT infrastructure. FMC unites mobile devices otherwise reliant on cellular coverage alone, with the corporate wireless and VoIP infrastructure. Imagine - improved accessibility while saving cellular costs!
It’s all in the “hand off” capabilities:
Supported dual-mode (cellular/WiFi) smart phones enable calls to be placed over a cellular network and over premise based IP PBX systems where there is a properly provisioned WLAN network integration with an IP PBX. Without a fixed mobile convergence solution, however, the communication isn’t seamless. Workers on a cell call coming into the office building have to end that call and call back over WiFi when on premise and in range of the WLAN network. When on a Voice/WiFi call initiated on premise, they need to end the call and call back on cell when they leave the range of the corporate WLAN. This isn’t “seamless, converged communications”. FMC is the missing link in that equation.
With expertise in wireless networks and enabled applications, COMU Networks can help your organization stay “always connected” with the real potential of reduced costs.
Benefits of Fixed Mobile Convergence:
Always reachable, always connected.
Cellular charges only when out of WiFi range.
Leverage IP PBX and WLAN corporate investments.
Opportunity to reduce desk top phones for mobile staff – in many cases the dual mode smart phone may be enough.
