I don’t know about where you live, but here in Sudbury it’s raining, which reminds me that Fall is coming. It’s time to give away a CanSpec sweatshirt, hoodie, toque and wine kit!

If you remember way back when, I posted a picture of our collection of coffee cups that we decided to divert from landfill and began composting. Be the person to come closest to guessing how many cups you think we diverted from November 17th 2010 to May 5th 2011 and you’ll win the the sweatshirt, hoodie, toque and wine kit (includes wine opener, bottle stopper and neck protector – keeps the red wine from dripping down the bottle). We had about 19 people working in the office during that time.

Comment below, or go to our facebook.com/canspec page to comment there. Contest ends September 1st. Good luck!

Air Sealing « CanSpec Inspection Services

Under the Ontario Home Energy Retrofit Program, there is a grant for making your home more air tight, or ‘sealing up your home’ to prevent heat loss. Air leakage can also occur in old furnace vents that remain in the house and go out through a chimney, or perhaps you have an unsealed attic hatch. The Certified Energy Advisor will actually measure the volume of air leakage in your home and will recommend how you can improve it.

Draft Proofing « CanSpec Inspection Services

Air leakage is the single largest problem most people have in their homes when it comes to trying to conserve energy and save money, yet it is often something that people don’t realize they can fix. Sealing up leaks around windows and doors, plumbing stacks, bathroom fans, attic hatches, basement headers and more will all help you save money on your energy bills.

ENERGY STAR « CanSpec Inspection Services

In order to qualify for ENERGY STAR, all elements of energy used in a home are required to be ENERGY STAR labelled, from household appliances like dishwashers and clothes washers to heating and cooling systems, insulation, windows and doors to smaller items such as light bulbs. Only manufacturers and retailers whose products meet the ENERGY STAR criteria can label their products with this symbol.

Renovations Based on the recommendations made by our certified energy advisors, you can begin to do the renovations that will improve the energy efficiency of your home. The amount of grant money you receive depends on the improvements you complete and has nothing to do with how much you spend or your annual income. We process the paperwork for you so that you receive the rebate automatically.

Services « CanSpec Inspection Services

Thermography, or infrared scans, can locate the source of potential problems in buildings related to heat, air or moisture without having to tear apart walls or floors, saving building and home owners thousands of dollars. At the request of an HVAC company, we can produce heat loss calculations for system design, if we have conducted on an energy assessment in the customer’s house.

Infrared Inspections « CanSpec Inspection Services

We’ve helped homeowners and businesses find problems such as a leaky pipe in an in-floor heating system, locating a small hole in a roof where moisture was coming into the house, and determining why one wall in the house is so cold.
