The energy industry is a generic term for all of the industries involved the production and sale of energy, including fuel extraction, manufacturing, refining and distribution. In 2008, total worldwide energy consumption was 474 exajoules (474×1018 J) with 80 to 90 percent derived from the combustion of fossil fuels (equivalent to an average power consumption rate of 15 terawatts). Salem Chemical provides chemicals and additives for the production of renewable energy (ethanol, biodiesel), drilling of oil and gas and refining petrochemicals.
