To start, we are asking that parents and guardians support our first waste minimization initiative by sending in a waste-free lunch every Wednesday. This would mean a goal of ‘zero garbage.’ Eventually, we are hoping to reach the goal of waste-free lunches everyday. Members of our Green Team will be tracking how many students in each class bring a waste-free lunch on Wednesdays. The class with the most students who bring a waste-free lunch will win an ice-cream party! In addition, we can earn points towards our Ecoschool certification. Let’s go for gold!
Currently, Simcoe County Schools can recycle the following plastics (1, 2, 4, 5, 7). Jammers, lunchable containers, straws, and individual yogurt and pudding cups are not recyclable.
We are also looking for community helpers to be part of the Green Team! If you would like to be part of the Green Team at Huronia Centennial on any of the three initiatives (waste minimization, energy conservation, and schoolyard greening), please contact Mrs. Marrable, Mrs. Allen, or Mrs. Gostling at the school (705-322-1101).
