Premium Grasscape Seed
We sell the same quality certified seed as we use in our sod fields, offering our customers the highest performance possible in a grass seed. This seed is chosen to best meet our local conditions and the ideals of a great lawn. Not all seed is the same, particularly when buying grass seed for the establishment of a permanent lawn. The lawn seed we sell contains Kentucky Bluegrass, Creeping Red Fescue, and Perennial Ryegrass. It looks similar to our sod after 18 months. It contains greater purity of seed than most seeds you’d find on the store shelf, producing a lawn darker in colour and greater in density than most grass seeds.
The Benefits of Sod vs. Seed
In today’s fast paced environment, we expect convenience, efficiency, and quality in our products. Why wait 1 or 2 years for a new lawn to reach a mature, healthy, durable, and beautiful state? Why struggle with the usual time consuming hassles of seeding and caring for an immature seeded lawn? You can have a beautiful lawn that you can enjoy today at a surprising low cost. A sod lawn requires scheduled watering and mowing in the first 3 weeks, but beyond that point your lawn can be enjoyed free of extra maintenance. While it does appear that sod requires a lot of water, the truth is that sod uses about ½ the water to establish than seed. Plus it helps keep mud from being tracked into your home from kids and pets.
Sod provides an instantly beautiful visual appearance, requires very little maintenance, and can be fully used in a couple of weeks. With a sod lawn there are no weeds to battle, no reseeding required, no bare spots or washouts, and you don’t have to tolerate thin growth for months. A sodded lawn is ready for light use in 3 or 4 days and in a couple of weeks it is ready for your full enjoyment. A seeded lawn takes 8 to 12 weeks to establish during which time you want very little traffic on it. With a seeded lawn, you’ll also need to keep the ground moist during most of this period. Weed invasion will be heavy during this seed establishment time. A thick lush lawn will take as long as 2 years to establish from seed.
Sod also offers its user much more flexibility. Sod can be installed most of the year, typically between March and November without having to worry about a struggling lawn, provided you follow our and typical lawn watering is followed the remainder of the year. Seeding can only be done from mid April to May or ideally during the last 2 weeks of August through to the first 2 weeks of September. This allows two establishment periods (fall and spring) before the grass must go through a hot, dry summer.Sod is perfect for the environmental benefits of reducing water usage during its establishment period, it immediately controls erosion, and it works where seed would fail. Sod establishes itself quickly and easily in areas where seed just won’t work.
