Comprehensive Yoga Therapy
Yoga, healing, alternative medicine
Comprehensive Yoga Therapy is a relatively new healing modality which is overseen by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). Comprehensive Yoga Therapy rests on a preventative health care model as opposed to treatment-based. Under this model the “patient” is viewed as a client, who is actually a student of health. This paradigm requires the client to implement healthy lifestyle routines at home on their own in all of life’s aspects – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual – as they apply to each individual.
Comprehensive Yoga Therapy takes the philosophy that healing begins in the mind. Many of our health issues, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, can be linked to stress. Stress is developed in our mind by our thoughts and beliefs. If the client chooses they can change their beliefs to suit a more healthy lifestyle.
Treatments are dictated by the client as they always choose the focus of the session. We work with the client to find yoga poses, breathing techniques, meditations, visualizations, foods and other methods to help the client heal in their own way. Each client is seen as unique so there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution, every session is different and the clients goals can change over time. We show clients how to heal themselves.
