Who is required to file?  Based in Canada or the US, if your a trucking company that operates on public roads in the United States and your vehicles have a gross vehicle weight of 55,000 lbs or more your required to file Form 2290 and pay the annual tax.  Tax rate is based on weight of vehicle and is prorated.  All vehicles operating on public highways in the United States must file!  Some exceptions for vehicles which operate under 5,000 miles or less (7,500 miles or less for agricultural vehicles).
