In October 2011 I traveled to Romulus, Michigan to attain 16 hours of continuing education credits. I learned how: Sleep deprivation is a major cause of problems in society today Teens need 8.5 - 9.25 hours of sleep a night to function fully Adults need 7 - 9 hours of sleep for optimal functioning 1 nights poor sleep is equivalent to a blood alcohol level of 0.05 2 nights poor sleep are equivalent to a blood alcohol level of 0.08 Most adults sleep 6 - 7.5 hours a night Poor sleep results in poor focus, less patient, less impulse control, depression, poor immunity, increased reaction time, premature aging, decreased learning and ADHD [reference Flavio Souza-Campos Ph.D.]
